The Vigàta Police Station in Scicli: How a Visit Works

Scicli's town hall plays the Vigàta police station in Inspector Montalbano. The set rooms, the guided visit, what you buy and where, and which tours go inside.

Updated October 2026

In the Montalbano series the police station of the invented town of Vigàta is a real building: the town hall of Scicli, on Via Francesco Mormino Penna, in the province of Ragusa. Its set rooms can be visited, and Scicli is small enough that the whole baroque centre takes a couple of hours on foot.

What you see inside

Two rooms are set pieces. The commissariato, with the desks of Montalbano and his sergeant Fazio facing each other, is on the ground floor. On the first floor, the mayor’s room plays the questore’s office. Italian press describes the building as neo-Renaissance in style. A guided visit lasts about 30 minutes, and both floors are reachable for visitors with reduced mobility.

Tickets and hours: confirm first

We found no official 2026 timetable, so treat every figure below as a lead, not a promise.

  • How you buy: a fan site says tickets are sold at the town hall entrance, with no online sale, and visits are guided. The municipal museum system’s FAQ, which may be out of date, says guided visits run at 20-minute intervals and need no booking.
  • Price: one traveller review gave €6 per person, but it is old. A local newspaper reported in April 2026 that the ticket price goes to projects that help people with disabilities find work.
  • Hours: the fan site gives daily hours of 10:00 to 18:00 and says to confirm with the Scicli museum system.
  • Closures: the rooms close while the series is filming, and no new episodes are planned.

Ask at the Comune or the museum system for the current times before you build a day around a visit.

The rest of the street

The police station is one of several set pieces on the same street. The Antica Farmacia Cartia at number 24, now a museum, appears in “The Scent of the Night”. Palazzo Spadaro at number 34 has the Caltagirone ceramic floor used for the Mayor of Vigàta’s room. The Church of San Bartolomeo, a short walk away, is cut into the rock and appears in festival scenes of “The Terracotta Dog”. The Palazzo Beneventano, a baroque showpiece, is on the same walk.

Which tours go to Scicli

  • Lemontour’s day tour from Catania names the town hall in its description and gives Scicli an hour and a half.
  • Empeeria’s private trip from Syracuse names the Palazzo del Municipio and Palazzo Iacono.
  • Sicily Grand Tour’s locations tour mentions the police-headquarters site in its highlights, but its itinerary does not list Scicli.
  • A private walking tour of Scicli (Italygonia Travel, 2 hours, 4.6 from 4 reviews) walks the baroque centre and lists the town hall as an external visit, so it does not go inside the set.
  • Palazzo Bonelli Patanè is a one-hour private visit of a noble palace with original furnishings; its listing does not mention the series.
